Business Tax and Benefits

The Business Support Service designed to meet the needs of businesses affected by the current economic conditions. If you are worried about paying your Council Tax bill, Wakefield Council may be able to help. The Council has launched a debit take-up campaign to spread the cost of business rates over 12 months, rather than 10. Click here for more information.

Businesses could be eligible for a new scheme – the Business Rates Deferral Scheme which started on 31 July 2009 – as well as the Small Business Rates Relief scheme. The deferral scheme allows businesses to postpone payment of this year’s increase over three years. Personal Tax and Benefits

The HM Revenue and Customs Tax provide information on tax credits. If you're responsible for at least one child or young person who normally lives with you, you may qualify for Child Tax Credit. If you work, but earn low wages, you may qualify for Working Tax Credit. Click here for more information.

If you're unemployed and available for work you may qualify for Jobseeker's Allowance and other benefits, depending on your circumstances. You may also get help and support with your search for a job through the New Deal scheme. Click here for more information.

If you're on a low income or are finding it hard to pay your council tax, you might be able to get help to pay all or part of it through Council Tax Benefit. Click here for more information.
